3 Tips to Setting Up a Mobile Office

In today’s technologically-savvy world, more and more people are doing the majority of their work outside of a normal office. Whether they’re telecommuting, working out in the field, or traveling for business, the need for mobile offices is ever increasing. If you find yourself in this situation, here are 3 tips to help you create a functional and productive mobile office that will allow you to do your work from the location of your choice.

Tip #1: Mobile Computer

Most workers find they need to have a computer that can travel with them wherever they go. Today, this usually means either a laptop or a tablet (or both). Laptops and tablets are designed to hold all of your necessary information in a small, portable device. While both devices are  useful, the type of mobile computer you choose will depend on what you will need it to do. If you will spend a lot of time typing up reports or presentations, a laptop with a keyboard will probably be your best bet. If you’ll spend most of your time reading reports or checking emails, then a tablet will more than serve your needs.

Things to remember:
• If you’ll be connecting to the home office server, make sure your computer technology is compatible
• Always make sure that your mobile computer is password protected

Tip #2: Mobile Internet

The internet is becoming more and more important as people need instant access to emails, websites, cloud servers, and other information. To best serve your mobile office, you need to make sure that you have mobile internet. The smartest choice is to have a wireless router. Not only is a wireless router more dependable than WiFi hotspots – owning one will ensure that you will always have the Internet whenever you need it – it is also the safer option. WiFi hotspots, such as the one at the local café – can result in your falling prey to a local hacker.

Tip #3: Mobile Storage

Most people who have a mobile office need to share the information they are gathering with someone back at the local office. The best options are either to have a way to connect remotely to your office’s server (talk to your IT department to see if this is an option) or to have everyone on the same cloud server – such as Dropbox or Google Drive. This will not only allow you to share information instantaneously with your colleagues, but will also allow you to access all of your information from any of your devices.

By following these three tips, you can make sure that you have a mobile office that is dependable and that suits all of your business needs.
